Since GCVS IV, there was no new GCVS edition. For the stars of the Name Lists, the GCVS data base provides incomplete information.
Main reasons for the automatic-survey new variables remaining outside the GCVS for a long time: • different level of detail of the classification systems, no perfect software for automatic classification available; • individual approach to each star that was always used in the GCVS cannot be applied any longer, but the experience of automatically-updated catalogs evidences for the number of errors being too high; software for light-curve analysis is not standardized, accuracy of periods and other derived parameters being rather poor; • insufficiently accurate coordinates for many automatic-survey variables (see one of the next slides);
• insufficiently standard access to data from different surveys, ETC.
