IWARA2018 - 8th International Workshop on Astronomy and Relativistic Astrophysics:

http://www.cesarzen.com/FirstAnnouncementIWARA2018.pdf

IWARA2018 will take place, from September 9 to 15, 2018 in OLLANTAYTAMBO, Sacred Valley, Peru, a region that encompasses Cusco and Machu Picchu village.

Important guidance: Please notice that participation in any event in a peculiar region such as the Peruvian Sacred Valley as well as to schedule visits to Machu Picchu and to other historical archeological sites of the region requires a delicate organization. The mentioned historical sites obey very particular and severe rules, schedules, and daily limitation of visitors. It is important that participants carefully read all the information available and observe the deadlines established by the organization of the event, otherwise we will not be able to guarantee that participants will visit the historical sites of the region.

We also inform you that the pre-registration period for the event has already started. Please sign up for IWARA2018 using the link:
https://indico.cern.ch/event/646046/registrations/35959/
We expect an appreciable number of participants in the meeting. So, please make as soon as possible your pre-registration to IWARA2018 in order we can guarantee your participation in the various activities offered during the meeting.

Registration and Local information web page: http://agenda.infn.it/event/StellarAges2017

This is the second announcement for a symposium on stellar ages to be held this fall. “The Ages of Stars” was held as IAU Symposium 258 in Baltimore in 2008. Much progress has been made since then in the critical problem of estimating stellar ages. This second Ages meeting will focus on these major themes:

Pre-main sequence and very young stars, and the connection to the formation and early evolution of stars and planetary systems. Solar-type and low-mass stars, and the connection to exoplanets. Evolved stars and the connection to Galactic archaeology. High-mass and intermediate-mass stars and the connection to clusters. Ages of the oldest stars and the connection to the halo and accretion. Stellar models and their limitations. We are planning an in-depth week covering a broad range of topics related to stellar ages.

Invited speakers:

A list of the current invited speakers can be found at:

FIRST ANNOUCEMENT

The Space Telescope Science Institute will be hosting a workshop titled “Enabling Transiting Exoplanet Observations with JWST” on July 10-12, 2017.

This workshop will provide a forum for the exoplanet community to learn about and discuss planning JWST observations to characterize transiting exoplanets. Talks will inform potential users about science opportunities and tools for observation planning. Data challenges will introduce the community to planned data products and identify key tools and resources for further data reduction and interpretation. With a Cycle 1 proposal deadline in early 2018, this workshop will serve as an important opportunity for the transiting exoplanet community to begin building high-quality JWST observing programs.
Poster abstracts should be submitted to https://goo.gl/forms/o6PTuWjjzHwshsqE2. The submission period begins April 1, 2017 and closes May 17, 2017. You will be notified by May 31st if your abstract has been accepted for presentation.
Registration is now open. The registration fee is $165.00 to attend the workshop. For more information regarding this workshop, please visit http://www.cvent.com/d/n5q7nc.

Announcement and Call for Applications

The "International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy & Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg" (IMPRS-HD)

announces the

12th Heidelberg Summer School. Topic is
Compact Objects & Gravitational Waves

September 11-15, 2017

IMPRS Heidelberg invites graduate students and postdocs to apply.
Relativistic astrophysics and their objects, compact stars and black holes, is one of the most fascinating topics in astronomy. The recent discovery of gravitational waves has even boosted interest in this field.
The school will look at the principles of relativistic astrophysics and numerical methods applied. We will discuss properties of compact objects, how they form, how they are structured, and how they look like.
Topics to be to covered include:
  • - Relativistic hydrodynamics, numerical relativity
  • - Core collapse supernovae, formation of compact objects,
  • - Structure of neutron stars, neutron star equation of state
  • - Compact object binaries, neutron-star mergers
  • - Gravitational waves
Invited lecturers are:
  • -> Thomas Baumgarte (Bowdoin College, Brunswick)
  • -> Tobias Fischer (University of Wroclaw)
  • -> Ewald Mueller (MPA Garching)
  • -> Nikolaos Stergioulas (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki)
The school SOC is Andreas Bauswein, Friedrich Roepke, Rainer Spurzem (Heidelberg)
  • Deadline for applications is July 10, 2017.
